Ottawa County to perform micro surfacing trial project on Arthur St.

The Ottawa County Road Commission, in partnership with American Pavements Inc. as the construction contractor and Michigan Paving & Materials Co. as the binder supplier, will conduct a micro surfacing trial project Monday, Sept. 14, 2020. Notifications will be posted to residents and businesses a day or two prior to the construction date.

The project is intended to test new binder developments and application differences on Arthur Street from 48th Avenue east to 32nd Avenue. Construction will take place in segments from 48th to 40th Aves., and from 40th to 32nd Aves. One lane will be closed during the construction in one direction and in one section for a few hours to construct the micro surfacing, never exceeding 1 mile of one lane closure.

The project will assist the Road Commission and the industry in pavement preservation improvements and roadway service life extension with minimal traffic disruption.

The project is expected to start and complete in the same day. Subsequently, the Road Commission and the companies involved will monitor the performance of the treatments over several years. During the evaluations there are no traffic disruptions expected.
