WHEN: June 17-Oct. 8, 2021 (est.)
WHERE: Cottonwood Dr., from Bauer Rd. to Taylor St., Georgetown Twp.
WHY: Reconstruction
BACKGROUND: The Ottawa County Road Commission tentatively plans to close Cottonwood Drive to through traffic between Bauer Road and Taylor Street in Georgetown Twp. beginning Thursday, June 17, 2021, for a road reconstruction project.
This $1.89 million project includes funding from Ottawa County’s Countywide Road Millage. It will completely reconstruct Cottonwood between Bauer and Taylor to provide three 12-foot-wide lanes (two drive lanes with one center turn lane). Driveways and intersection approaches will be reconstructed to match the changes along Cottonwood.
Other improvements include:
- Georgetown Twp. will install 5-foot-wide sidewalk on both sides of Cottonwood.
- Installation of concrete curb and gutter on both sides of the road.
- Installation of storm sewer with catch basins.
This project will take place in stages and may take some time to complete. The estimated completion date is Friday, Oct. 8, 2021. Please note that all dates are tentative and work is weather dependent. Please visit our website, sign up for email alerts and visit our social media pages to obtain project updates.
TRAFFIC IMPACT: Cottonwood between Taylor and Bauer will be closed to through traffic during the project, however access will be maintained to driveways that access Cottonwood. All subdivision streets with access to Cottonwood will be closed and require an alternate route.
DETOUR: The planned detour route for this project is Bauer Rd./24th Ave/Fillmore St.
To facilitate this detour, a temporary 3-way stop sign is being placed at the intersection of 24th Ave. and Bauer Rd. This temporary stop will stop traffic heading east and west along Bauer at the 24th Ave. intersection.
