Road Reconstruction: 124th Avenue, Olive Township

WHAT: Road Reconstruction

WHERE: 124th Avenue, from Polk Street to Croswell Street, Olive Township

WHEN: Beginning August 12, 2019

BACKGROUND: The Ottawa County Road Commission along with Olive Township have scheduled road construction along 124th Avenue and it is anticipated that the work will begin starting Monday, August 12, 2019.

Work on this project will consist of the following: tree removal, grading, aggregate base, culvert, aggregate and asphalt driveways, asphalt leveling and top courses, aggregate shoulders and restoration.

The road will be closed to thru traffic; however, access will be maintained to residential driveways. The construction will take place in several stages and may take some time to complete. Inclement weather will also be a factor in the timely completion of the project.

IMPACTS TO RESIDENTS: Your mailbox will be temporarily moved to a new location for the construction operations and then replaced after construction. Both the temporary location and the replaced height of mailbox will be specified by the mail carrier and/or post office.

If you have items within the road right-of-way that are near the existing roadway such as irrigation or landscaping, please make arrangements to remove these items. You may flag the irrigation lines, sprinkler heads, or other items that are near the right-of-way line and the contractor will make every effort to avoid them. However, neither the contractor nor the road commission will be held responsible should any damage occur to these items within the road right-of-way.

If you have an existing concrete driveway and the new roadway does not have a concrete or asphalt curb or gutter, then per the policy of the Ottawa County Road Commission your driveway approach will be replaced with asphalt. If the new roadway has a concrete or bituminous curb or gutter, then your driveway will be replaced in kind.

Once the new asphalt surface has been placed please avoid parking on the roadway and shoulder for at least a week. This will help minimize any possible damage to the new pavement.

If you should have any further questions or require additional information, please do not hesitate to contact our office at 616-842-5400 and ask for the project engineer.
