68th Ave. resurfacing between M-45, Grand River begins Monday, July 19

WHEN: July 19-Aug. 6, 2021 (est.)

WHERE: 68th Ave., between M-45 and the Grand River, Allendale Twp.

WHY: Road Resurfacing

BACKGROUND: The Ottawa County Road Commission will be resurfacing 68th Avenue, between M-45 and the Grand River in Allendale Township, beginning Monday, July 19, 2021.

In early 2020, the Michigan Department of Transportation awarded a state Transportation Economic Development Fund (TEDF) Category F grant of $375,000 to the OCRC to help fund the $722,044 improvement to 68th Ave. from M-45 to the Grand River.

The route is a heavily used north-south commercial route between M-45 and I-96, and includes one of only four crossings over the Grand River between Grand Rapids and Lake Michigan, and serves as an emergency route for U.S. 31 and M-231.

Enacted in 1987 and reauthorized in 1993, the TEDF helps finance highway, road and street projects that are critical to the movement of people and products, as well as getting workers to their jobs, materials to growers and manufacturers, and finished goods to consumers.

TEDF “Category F” or “Urban Areas in Rural Counties” grants provide state funding for public roadway improvements that create system continuity with the secondary all-season road system. Category F grants provide funding for projects that include improving access to the state all-season system or improving safety and all-season capabilities on routes having high commercial traffic. Eligible road agencies include county road commissions, cities and villages.

It is expected that the project will take several weeks to complete. Please note that all dates are tentative and work is weather dependent.

TRAFFIC IMPACT: The road will remain open during the resurfacing project utilizing temporary lane closure under flag control. Please give yourself extra time when heading out in order to avoid any delays.
